Once again, what can I say?  Great weather for golf!  The more difficult back 9 did take its toll on some, as we saw 5 players’ handicaps go up, although that was coupled with an equal number that went down.  Is the saying “courses for horses”, or “horses for courses”?

Once again, we had a reduced field with 4 players out, and just 2 subs.  Thank you to Gloria and Dan for filling in!  And welcome back to Steve Fusco and Grace, returning to play from the D/L.  Good to have you back!

And, for my final “Once again” in his 2nd sub appearance of the season, Dan R. was the top winner on the night, firing a net 5-under par to hand Tommy a 7-2 loss.  Tom held in there through the first 4 holes, but, it was all Dan coming down the stretch, winning all of the remaining 5 holes. Nice round Dan!

Next up we had  Pete, finishing strong as well, taking 4 of the last 5 holes, and holding our leader Jim to just 3 points.  Way to step up Pete!  Unfortunately, the other half of team Michalski, was on the receiving end of a 6-3 loss, as Sue fell to Mark, in match featuring 4 tied holes. Mark held the lead the whole way, but Sue hung in there, nipping away and keeping Mark on his toes.

Three matches went to 5 ½ - 3 ½.  In the Steve vs Steve match, it was Mr. Fusco prevailing over Mr. Lockwood, giving more stock to the old adage “Beware the injured golfer”, as he shot a net 3-under on his way to victory.  Nicely done Steve! Grace’s return to play, however, resulted in a loss, as she and Bette were all tied through 7, and then Bette took it up a notch to capture the last 2 holes for the win!  Well played ladies! And, in the 3rd of these matches, Andy managed to hold off Gloria, in a match replete with a triple, a double, a birdie and a possible eagle, turned par. Yes, it was that kind of a round…  Nice match Glo!

Last but not least, in our final “Family Feud” matchup of the season, experience won out over youth, as Dave held off Tim, in a match with 4 tied holes, and an opportunity for Tim to tie the match at the last hole.  An errant tee shot by Tim at the 18th was all that was needed for Dave, as he matched Tim stroke for stroke at the last to tie the hole and win the match!  Well fought gents!

Marty was not in action tonight, so, no change in the “others” category for him.  Just 3 more weeks to go.

Despite not playing, Marty held on to his #2 spot, behind our leader JimAndy moved up from T7 to 3rd, pushing Tommy down into 4th place. Steve Fusco moved up into 5th place, from 6th, however, as it stands now, he will not have a sufficient number of rounds to qualify in the league standings.   Don’t worry Steve, after tonight’s showing, you’re in good shape in the Hacker Cup! (see below).  Finally, Tim and Steve Lockwood fell out of their tie for 4th, into 6th and 7th, respectively.  Expect more of movement going on now that most people are throwing out low points.

Hacker Cup

As the playoffs begin, we see a shuffling at the top right off the bat.  With Marty sitting out the first week, Bette made the move into the top spot from her previous 5th position, followed closely by Steve Fusco making a huge move up with the lowest net of the group, scaling the leaderboard from 12th into 2nd.  (Remember when I said: “Beware the injured golfer”?)  This dropped Marty and Jim from 1st and 2nd, into a tie for 3rd place. Meanwhile, Tom fell from 3rd to 5th , as Andy dropped out of the top 5, falling from 4th to 7th.  Everyone is still in this, so, bring those “A” games!
