FINAL RESULTS: September 11, 2020

Congratulations to this year’s winner!

The Champion Golfer of the year is

Steve Lockwood!

Second place to Jim

Third place is a tie with Tim and Andy

And, in just the second time since the inception of the Hacker Cup competition, we have a dual winner, as Steve takes the Hacker Cup as well, posting 2 low-net weeks in-a-row to close out the season! Great finish Steve!

Whew!  Despite the late start to the season, (thank you Covid), we managed to get all matches in before the sun went down, or the snow started flying!  The air was a little cooler, and a lot drier on this night, making for a comfortable round, for some anyway.

Steve Lockwood continued his solid play from last week, posting another 8-1 win, this time with Pete as his victim.  The 9-point score vaulted him to the top of the standings, 1-tenth of a point ahead of Jim.

Jim managed to improve his point average by .5, as he and Andy tied their, shall we say “lackluster” match.  It just wasn’t enough to match Steve’s performance. The highlight of the match came at the final hole, as Jim, who was in the rough behind the 6th hole, lofted what I suspect was an 8-iron, up and over the tree guarding the green, onto the green, narrowly missing the lengthy birdie putt to close out with a well-earned par.  Excellent shot Jim!

Neither Andy, nor Tim improved their averages, and ended up moving their tie for 2nd place, down to a tie for 3rd , just ahead of Tom, who improved from 6th  to 5th place with his 5-4 win over Tim.

The remaining matches saw Mark racking up a wire-to-wire, 6-3 win over Gloria, on his way to posting the low gross on the night.  Nice round Mark!  This was the 1st of the 3 matches involving employees/retirees tonight.

The remaining matches all resulted in 5-4 margins for the winners.  Bette jumped out to an early lead over Dan F., who managed to get to all square at the 4th hole.  Bette halted his advance by taking the next 2 holes, and then 2 more ½ points to secure the win.

Dan R. and Sue had a close one, as Sue took the lead after the 3rd hole, and didn’t relinquish it until they tied at the 8thDan then went on to close out the match at the lengthy par-5 finishing hole.  Nice match folks!

In the 2 remaining employee/retiree matches, Dave won out over Bob in a match that was all-square 6 times out of the 9 holes, with Dave “scooping” up the win at the final hole.  Great battle gentlemen!

Steve Fusco was the victor in the final GE matchup.  Starting with a split on the 1st hole, Steve led the rest of the way, scoring points in all but 2 of the remaining holes, to take the win over Marty.  I guess the new knee works pretty good.  Nice round Steve!

Marty did it! Another season in the books with nothing worse than a double-bogey on the card! Consistency is a wonderful thing.  I look forward to the day I myself can achieve it 😊
