We are certainly seeing a variety of weather conditions this year, as the lack of humidity was made up for by a strong, steady wind out of the west. There were 5 handicap changes following tonight’s round. 2 were for the better. Some like the wind, others, not so much.
There were some big wins out there tonight, starting with Bette and Steve Fusco leading the way with 7 ½ points each, plus the bonus, over Andy and Sue. Bette had an excellent round, resulting in not only the huge win, but top honors in the low net race. Great round Bette! Meanwhile, Andy may have set a record for the most tree’s hit in a single round, with 6 (at least 4 of which qualified as “Mohsingers”, which may also be a record, so, yay).
Next up, Jim defeated Bob 7 – 2, as Jim shot a net 3-under to Bob’s net 3-over. Just another example of how a good night for one vs a bad night for another can lead to big points. The win moved Jim up from tied for 5th in the standings, into a 3-way tie for 2nd.
In the ExecComp match, Marty took full advantage of the conditions, firing an excellent even par round, as he dominated Dave 6 ½ - 2 ½. The win moved Marty from 4th place up into that 3-way tie as well. Nice job Marty, great round!
Tom and Mark were the winners in the 5 ½ - 3 ½ points range vs Susan and Grace. Tom jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Susan fought back with a 3-0 run of her own to tie it up through the first 6 holes. They split the next hole, but then Tom closed out the match, taking the final 2 holes for the win. Well fought you two! Mark had clinched the match by the 7th hole, but Grace put on a strong finish to win the last 2 holes and avoid a rout. Way to hang in there Grace!
Steve Lockwood and Tim had an epic battle, all tied up through the first 5 holes, Steve needed the full point at the 6th in order to secure the win, as they split the remaining 3 holes. Net 37 to net 38, shows just how close it really was. Nice match gentlemen!
In the other 5-4 matchup, Pete jumped out to an early lead against Dick, filling in for Dan. Dick fought back, bringing the match to all-square by the 6th hole. Pete then took the 7th hole for a brief lead, only to have Dick tie it back up at the 8th . Pete then struggled a bit on the final hole, while Dick took it for the win. The closeness of this match too, was reflected by the splitting of the low net point. Nice match! I’d also like to point out that the only matches where the higher-handicap player won on the night, were those involving the Vosko siblings, Dick and Bette. Great competitors!
Despite the multiple trips into the trees by Andy, there was no movement out of the “other” bubble. With Marty shooting level par, and the only 3-over Mark had, being for the entire round, my money is on Andy to be the next one out. Only time will tell.
In this week’s Virtual Money Ball event, Tom made excellent use of the fore-knowledge provided, as he won on the first hole drawn, by making birdie, net eagle on the 3rd hole. Nice job Tommy!
Marty, Tom and Tim, held onto their top 3 positions, while Steve Fusco bumped brother Dan out of 4th place, while moving up from 5th. Bette’s top points gave her a big lift from 12th place into #5.
