Despite the looming threat from tropical storm Fay, we managed to get another one in the books. Umbrellas came out here and there, but, nothing heavy enough to make the round miserable.  If anything, the spritzes and sprinkles gave some momentary relief to the heat and humidity.  All-in-all, on a scale of 1-10, I think I’d give it an 8.

For those who weren’t present, the day also marked the 26th Wedding Anniversary for Tom and Bette, who celebrated by winning both of their matches!  Congratulations on both counts!  Now, let’s see how next week goes, when they face off against each other 😊

The top winner tonight was Bob, winning 6 ½ - 2 ½ in an unscheduled matchup against PetePete took the first hole, but, Bob went into overdrive, taking 5 ½ of the next 6 holes, and finished with a par at the last hole for the win. Nice round Robert!

Bette was next up with a 6-3 tally against Dave.  It’s tough to win when you’re giving strokes and your opponent matches your gross score.  Bette played well enough to be one of only two players in the field to lower their handicap.  Nice round Bette!

Sue, Susan and Jim were next up with 5 ½ point wins over Tim, Marty and, oddly enough, Sue.  Yes, pulling double-duty against Tim and Jim, Sue won her scheduled match against Tim, but, gave up 5 ½ points against Jim.  I should point out here that there was a mistake in the scorecard for Sue’s handicap.  I corrected that, which resulted in changes in the match points.  See the marked-up scorecard if you have any questions.  I apologize for the incorrect card.  Susan was the other player to improve on her handicap, as she gave up only 2 full holes to Marty on the way to her victory.  Nicely done Susan.

Tom was the final winner, with a 5-4 victory over Andy, in a match that featured a first (I believe) as Tom’s tee-shot on 16, resulted in him playing up the 17th fairway, playing his approach shot from the 17th tee.  Double-bogey there is not bad considering the path that was taken!

And, last but not least, Steve Lockwood faced former Hacker and sub-for-the-night Billy Normile. Bill jumped out to the early lead, but Steve fought back to square it through 4 holes, and then take the lead by 2 through 6.  Bill got it back to all-square through 8, and then they split the final hole for the hard-fought tie! Nice match!

Mark, Marty and Dan, are still hanging on in the running for the other” title.  Marty flirted with an other, sinking a lengthy putt to save a double, early in the round.  Talk about a pressure putt!   However, with Marty’s loss to Susan, Steve Lockwood is now the only remaining player without a loss. We’re almost half-way through the season, with just one more match before the mid-season scramble. How long can they all go?
