Another great weather day! A little steamy, but not too bad.
Our top winner tonight was Tim, shooting lights out against poor Susan didn't know what hit her, as she managed to split just 2 holes for a single point in the 8-1 romp. Excellent round Tim!
Bob was next up, as he took the first hole, while Sue answered at the second, but it was all Bob the rest of the way, allowing Sue just three 1/2 points on his way to the 6 1/2 - 2 1/2 victory.
Two matches went 6-3, starting with Marty, as he jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead against Grace, then, faltered a bit allowing Grace to garner 3 points over the next 4 holes, but, applying the coup de grâce (pun intended) at the final hole for the 6-3 win.
And, in the 2nd of our marital matchups, Tom showed no mercy, leading the match wire-to-wire on his way to the 6-3 victory over Bette. It's a good thing that LAST week was the anniversary!
In the matches ending in 5-4, we first had Jim and Steve Lockwood with a close one, as Steve jumped out to the early lead against Jim, who managed to get it to all square by the 3rd hole. They tied the next to remain even, then Steve, then Jim, then another tied hole, till Jim took the 8th to guarantee at least a tied match, an sealed the deal with a split hole at the end for the 5-4 win. Great match guys!
Next up, Dick and Andy had another close one going, as they too went back-and-forth with Dick having the lead 4 times during the first 5 holes. After getting to all square at the 6th, they split the next 2 holes, with Andy taking the point at the final hole for the 5-4 win. Great match Dick, and thanks again for filling in on short notice.
Finally, it was Dan jumping out to the early lead against Dave, and never giving it up, as Dave was within 1 point 5 times, including the finish, as Dan took the match 5-4. The closeness of the match is evidenced by the splitting of the net bonus point. Well done gents!
The one remaining match ended in a tie between Mark and Pete. Mark took the first hole, but Pete came on strong taking 3 1/2 of the next 4 holes. Mark re-grouped to take 2 1/2 of the next 3 to get to all square coming to the final hole, which they split for the ending resulting tie. Nice matchup!
Dan finally succumbed to the fateful “other”, with an unplayable lie at the 3rd hole. Those trees will get you every time…. This leave Mark and Marty as the only players without the blemish. Good luck guys! Enjoy the pressure-free scramble next week!
Steve Lockwood finally met his match, suffering his first loss of the season. It was a great run Steve!
At the halfway point, time to start looking at the league standings. Jim is in the top spot after this week, followed by Marty, who moved up into solo 2nd, from a tie for 2nd with Steve L, who, with his first loss, fell to 6th . Tommy moved up from 5th into 3rd place, followed by Steve F in 4th. Rounding out the top 5 spots was, not surprisingly, Tim, as his 8 point+ round moved him up from 8th place. Remember, in a couple of weeks, some folks will start throwing out their low points, and the shuffling will begin. Good luck to all!
Once again Marty and Tom held on to the top 2 spots, while Bob nudged past Dave, moving from 7th into 3rd. With his top points night, Tim moved well up the leaderboard, from 9th to 5th, while Bette and Jim each dropped from 4th and 5th to 6th and 7th, respectively. Wit four match-weeks remaining until the play-offs and the re-seeding, it’s time to turn on the afterburners if you want a shot at the Cup!
