FINAL RESULTS: August 27, 2021

Congratulations to this year’s winner!

The Champion Golfer of the year is

Tom Mohsinger!

Second place to Brian

Third place to Tim

Congratulations to Tommy for a great season, not only winning the League Championship, but finishing the season with just 1 loss and 2 ties for an .851 win ratio!  Brian was nipping at his heels with just 1 more loss than Tommy.  Nice season BrianMarty rounded out the top 3 in this statistic, with 1 fewer round played, and just 1 more tied match than Brian.

Mark closed out the season with no “others”, leading the field in average pars, 2nd in average birdies and 1st in fewest double-bogeys, ending with the lowest average over-par in the field.  Great season Mark!

Gloria was the top scorer on the night, in a wire-to-wire, 6 ½ - 2 ½ win over Susan. I’m not sure, but, I think Gloria may have been motivated to get above the dreaded 8th place finish…

The matchup of cousins saw Jim jump out to an early lead, but then Steve fought back to square up the match at the 6th hole.  Jim said oh-no-you-don’t, and turned things up a notch to win the final 3 holes for the 6-3 win.

Five matches all ended in 5 ½ - 3 ½ decisions.

In order of play:

Mark got it to 3-up with 2 to play against Dave, who managed to get back one more point at the 8th hole.

Despite the rough start at the first hole, Bob was able to get back to all square and hold Tom there for 2 holes, but then Tom started to pull away slowly, to finish 2-up for the win.

Brian came out firing against Sue, quickly running up a 3-point lead.  Sue fought back midway through the round to get to just 1 down through 6. From there it was a back-and-forth volley, with Brian finishing on top.  Well fought Sue!

The match of Dan and Tim was squared-up on 4 occasions through 6 holes, with Dan taking 1 ½ of the final 3 points for the win.  Another close one!

Pete and Andy had another match that was squared-up 4 times, including at the 7th hole.  Pete struggled on the final 2 holes leading to the win for Andy.  Could’ve gone either way!  Nice round Pete!

In an unfortunate happenstance, Bette’s clubs decided not to join her at the course.  This resulted in Marty matching cards to Andy. Marty had it to 3-up thru 7, but a par-par finish by Andy managed to take back 2 points, giving Marty the 5-4 win in the end.

Next Week’s format:  I decided to default to the same format as last year, going with the 5 clubs total allowed in the bag (it’s up to the player to decide if one of those clubs is a putter or not)  It’s a full-field, 2-flight tournament (no matches).  Flights are as follows:

$1 for the moneyball drawing.  This too will be based on the Stableford points for the hole that is drawn.

CTP is still active

Hacker Cup

For the first time in the 13-year history of the Hacker Cup competition, we ended the play-offs with a tie at the top between Brian and Dave!  After consulting with various experts (thank you Tim and Marty), it was determined that the best way to decide a single winner was to perform a virtual playoff between the players involved.  It was decided to utilize an 18-hole aggregate score using the BEST scores each player had on each hole throughout the season.  Their year-end handicaps would then be applied, and the lowest net score would decide the winner.

Therefore, the results are as follows:

Brian 38 – 40 for a 78 gross, minus his end-of-season handicap of 10 for a net 68

Dave 39 – 39 for a 78 gross, minus his end-of-season handicap of 12, for a net 66

Making Dave our first ever Hacker Cup champion decided by a playoff!

Congratulations Dave!

And congrats to Brian as well for an outstanding rookie season!
