And we’re off!  With one postponement in the books already, we finally managed to get the season started!  It was good to see everyone, and to get back to what seemed like a pretty normal post-round gathering.

Once again, welcome to the league Brian, and please accept my apologies once again not only for hitting into your group on the first hole, but also for hitting your ball as you were about to putt!  I am usually more aware of where folks are and try not to do things like that, nor is it indicative of the behavior of the rest of the league.  On the plus side, I did make the putt for birdie, thanks to your ball backstopping mine and keeping it from rolling off the green, so thank you!

Welcome back to the fold Gloria!  We all missed you!  Looking forward to our match next week. Although, the long-range forecast has us under a rain cloud.  Let’s hope it changes for the better between now and then.

The first week’s big winner is Tommy, with a near shut-out against Steve, who may be looking to get his money back from the lesson we hear he got during the off-season. 8 points plus the bonus is a great start Tom!  Nice job!

Next up, was newcomer Brian. Apparently unshaken by the 1st hole mishap, he beat, what I can only imagine was a struggling Dave, 7-2. After winning the 1st hole, Dave proceeded to shoot double his handicap over par, which is rarely a good thing.  Hopefully, this was an anomaly Dave and you’ll be back to form soon!

Susan and Sue both fell 6-3 to Tim and Andy, respectively.  We had a double-Mohsinger on the 2nd hole, but, I will only say that the player’s name starts with “Su”.  In addition to Sue scoring her first par of the season at #15, other highlights from the round include a chip-in at the final hole for Tim to avoid the snowman, and one for Andy on the 16th for birdie.

Things got a little tighter in the matchup between Mark and Pete, as they split 5 holes. 2 of the 3 holes lost by Pete were by a single stroke, leaving Mark to prevail 5 ½ - 3 ½ . Nice match gents!

In case no one was aware, Friday was “No pants” day.  I, for one, was happy to see that Bob did not show up in a kilt for his match with Bette. This match was a real slug-fest, with Bob jumping out to an early 2 hole lead. Then it was Bette, then Bob, then a tie, then Bob again, then Bette, then a tie, and finally Bette with the last hole in a heartbreak 5-4 loss!  Looks like a fun round kids!

The remaining matches of Jim vs Gloria, and Marty vs Dan, ended in ties.  While Jim played at his handicap, and Gloria just 1 stroke over hers, Marty and Dan had a more difficult time of it, with each scoring a double on the first hole, setting the tone for what was to come.  Marty seemed to recover a bit better than Dan, but, still not enough to avoid the tie.

Dan and Andy have quickly bowed out of the “Others” competition, leaving it as a 3-man race now among Jim, Mark and title-defender Marty.  Good look fellas!

With his big win and low net, Tom has the early lead in the race for the cup, followed by Jim in 2nd place, Brian and Gloria in a tie for 3nd place, Mark and Andy tied for 5th. Still very early days here.

Andy missed what he now realizes could very well have been an ace, as the ball rolled to a stop just 25” past the hole. Alas, what might’ve been…
