I was a little concerned as I arrived early at the course in the middle of a brief rain shower, with gray clouds looming in the distance, but, it turned out that there was no need for concern, and the rest of the evening was perfect, weather-wise.

Five players had their handicaps go down, as all but one of them did so while winning their match as well. 2 players saw an increase in handicap.

Bob was the top point-winner tonight as some of his old form returned, downing Susan 8-1.  As with some of the other matches tonight, this seems to have been a case where one player was “on” and the other was “off”, leading to some lopsided scoring.  Tough round SusanBob was definitely back on his game tonight.

Joe “The Giant Killer” Sheridan, took down another low-handicapper, handing Marty his first loss of the season.  Joe came out firing  and did not let up while cruising to the  6 ½ -2 ½ victory. This was another example of those “on” /”off” matches, as Marty was certainly off his game, while Joe shot well below his handicap.

Brian was pulling double-duty tonight, with his scheduled match with Pete, as well as a card match with Dan.  Clearly, he was up to the task, despite all of the last-minute schedule shuffling, as he posted the low net for the group on his way to a 6-3 win over Pete, and holding Dan to just 2 ½ points.  In the first match, Pete took the first point, but then Brian took the next 5-in-a-row to secure the win in 6 holes.  It took him just one more hole to clinch the match against Dan at the 7th.  Nice round Brian!  I hope that makes all the re-scheduling a little less painful.

Bette was able to exact some revenge against Gloria for the previous week’s card match, in which she was held to just 2 points.  The tables were turned somewhat tonight as Bette also guaranteed her win after the 6th hold, ending with a tidy 6-3 win plus the bonus point.

Tom and Tim battled to a 5-4 win for Tom, in what was a bit of a back-and-forth match, with both players leading at some point before tying things up at the 7th hole and remaining tied thru the 8thTom apparently pulled some Mohsinger “Tree Magic” out of his bag, causing Tim to find difficulties with trees at the final hole, resulting in loss of the hole and the match.  Tom, remember, with great power comes great responsibility.  Mohsinger Tree Magic should only be used for good 😊

Dave and Sue had a real nail-biter going, as their match was tied at 6 points during the round, including coming to the final hole.  The long par 5 turned out to be too much for Sue, as she posted her only double-digit score there, handing the win to Dave.  Valiant effort Sue!

Finally, Mark and Andy continued their affinity for tying one-another.  After tying the first hole, Mark ran up a 3-1 lead thru the first 4 holes. Tied at 3 ½ - 3 ½ thru 7, Mark clinched the tie at the 8th.  The final hole was a struggle for both players, with Andy winning the hole and tying the match with a bogey.  The match was split even more as they halved the bonus point.  Nice match!

In the league standing, it is shaping up to be another tight race as Brian supplanted Tom at the top of the leaderboard by just 4 100ths of a point.  Andy and Marty swapped positions, ending in 3rd and 4th place respectively, while Mark and Dan finally broke up their perpetual tie, as Mark takes solo 5th and Dan drops to 8th place.

Mark maintained his other-less play once again, with the season rapidly coming to a close.

Hacker Cup

Dan still leads the way as we near the close of the regular season for the Hacker Cup.  Brian is just 705 points back from the coveted #1 seed location, moving up from 5th place with his top score on the night.  This moved Andy and Mark both down one position, into 3rd and 4th, respectively, followed by Pete, moving up from 6th to 5th, while nudging Tim out of the top 5.  Just one more week until the playoffs.
