Well, it started out a little on the hot and sticky side, but, after the little breeze picked up a bit, it wasn’t so bad. Here’s hoping that the rest of the season is like this.
We had 4 players improving their handicap this week, with 3 players seeing their handicap rise slightly. Apparently, some like it hot, some do not.
Tom certainly likes it hot, as he cruised to a 6 ½ - 2 ½ win over Joe, posting the low net for the group and snagging those precious Hacker Cup Playoff points in the process. This match started out looking like a close one, but then Tommy put the pedal down on the 3rd hole and never looked back! Nice round Tom!
Gloria was also a 6 ½ - 2 ½ winner over Sue. This was a wire-to-wire win for Gloria, with only one full point given at the 8th hole.
Tim got out to a fast start in his match with Pete, leading 3 ½ - ½ through the first four holes. Then Pete made a run to get back into the match, scoring 2 ½ of the next 3 points, but falling just short, finishing on the losing end of the 6-3 match. Nice effort Pete!
Three matches ended 5 ½ - 3 ½, as Susan, Bill and Steve, prevailed against Jim, Bob and Andy.
Jim had jumped out to an early lead, but then faltered, as Susan took 5 of the last 6 points for the win. Nice round Susan!
Bill and Bob were neck-and-neck throughout most of their round, with each player leading at least once, and the match tied-up at three different points. Bill finished off the match with two pars and a bogey for the win!
Andy threw up three goose-eggs in the first three holes against Steve, and it was just too much to overcome, as Steve shot just 1 over his handicap to seal-the-victory! Nice round Steve!
In the “Exec Comp, left-handed, Hacker-veterans bragging rights” matchup, it was another slugfest. Tied at both the 1st and 2nd holes, Marty pulled ahead slightly, but was caught by Dave at the 6th. Dave then took 2 of the next 3 points for the narrow 5-4 win. Nice match guys!
Last but not least, we saw Brian turn another tough start on the front 9, into a win, as he and Bette knotted up the match 5 times before Brian was able to close it out at the final hole. Another well-fought Hacker battle!
Tom and Brian continue to slug it out at the top of the standings, with Tommy coming out on top this week, with just a .15 lead over Brian in 2nd place. Meanwhile, Tim moved ahead of Marty into 3rd place, while Andy and Dan fell into a tie for 5th.
Coming from the #3 seed position, Brian has moved into the top spot after the first week of the playoffs, supplanting Dan, who fell to 4th place. Andy fell from 2nd place to 5th as Tommy made a big move up the leaderboard from 8th to take his place. Another veteran Hacker making a big move was Dave, moving up into 3rd place from the 7th seed position. Tim and Mark both fell out of the top five, but, don’t count either of them out of it yet. Stay tuned!
