Another hot and sticky one, with a quick little cool-down shower near the end. Friday the 13th weather 😊
It was another week with 4 players improving their handicap, and just 2 going the other direction. Clearly, some of us like the heat!
Five players picked up 6 points in their matches tonight. Brian and Dave both took 6-3 wins over Andy. Brian did so in an impressive manner, shooting 6 strokes below his handicap! Great round Brian! Dave, playing two groups behind, must’ve smelled blood in the water, as he too shot well below his handicap on the way to his victory. Nice job Dave!
Tom fared better in his double-duty night, winning his match with Gloria 6-3 and holding Dan to just 3 points as well. It is shaping up to be a great season for Tommy, as, so far this season, Dave is the only one who has been able to hand him a loss!
Our final 6-3 win goes to Tim in his match with Joe. Joe struggled out of the gate, while Tim ended up playing 2 better than HIS handicap, making it nearly impossible to keep pace, let alone catch up. Nice round Tim!
Marty and Susan had an ebb-and-flow round, with Marty taking a lead at the start, then Susan made a move at the start of the final 3rd of the round, providing herself with a chance to tie the round at the final hole. Unfortunately, that hole proved too much for her, as Marty secured the match with a win at the last hole. Nice effort Susan!
Mark picked up 5 points plus the bonus, in his card-match with Gloria, in a round that saw the match knotted-up at 5 different holes. Mark took the final hole for the 5-4 win. Nice match!
Finally, Steve and Bette both shot below their handicaps, and battled to a draw. They were tied-up four times throughout the match, and split the bonus point as well. It doesn’t get much closer than that!
There was very little movement in the league standings, as Tom, Brian, Tim and Marty held onto the top 4 spots, while Mark moved up from 8th place into 5th, knocking Andy and Dan out of their tie, into 6th and 7th place, respectively. Careful Dan, 8th place is just one place away 😊
Not surprisingly, with a net 30 this week, Brian retained the top spot in the Race for the Cup. Dave moved up from 3rd to 2nd, nudging Tom down into 3rd place. Andy moved up from 5th into 4th, as Dan fell into a tie for 5th place with Tim, who moved up from the 6th position.

With no one in our group having looked at the marker yet, he jokingly called back to the group behind us (specifically to Dan), “you need to beat 4 feet 3 inches”.
