That was one toasty round! I’m not sure if it is just the earliness of the season, or, the mid-summer temp and humidity, but clearly there was some struggling out there, as evidenced by six player’s handicaps going up following this round, while only two improved.
Brian was the top point-earner on the night, handing a heartbreaking loss to what I can only assume was a struggling Bob, who managed just two halved holes in the 8-1 loss.
In one of the two heads-up matches of the night, Tim took Gloria to school, firing a 2-under par net, on his way to the 7 ½-1 ½ point win, as well as earning top net honors for the round. Nicely done Tim!
Pete was next up in the win category, assuring at least a halved match by the 5th hole, then guaranteeing the win at the 6th hole. Bette fought back, taking the next 2 holes, but Pete finished it off with a win at the last for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win.
Three matched ended in 5 ½ - 3 ½ wins, as Mark, Tom and Andy defeated Susan, Sue and Jim. Jim and Andy were playing the other heads-up match of the night, and the match started out as expected, as they split the 1st 3 holes. Jim may have been shaken by the “Magic Mohsinger” Andy received on the 12th hole, as his pulled tee-shot, given up for lost after an extensive search to the left of the green, actually turned up on the green (always look there first I guess). In any case, Jim struggled somewhat after that, dropping 4 of the next 5 holes, giving Andy the win.
The final two matches included a knock-down drag-out between Marty and Steve, with a dramatic, hail Mary, missed putt at the final hole that would’ve halved the hole and the match. Dan and Dave had a similar situation, with just 1 stroke at the final hole being the difference between the win for Dave, or a tie. Dave came out on top, as both matches ended 5-4 . I thought I heard someone yell out “Exec Comp Rules!”
Despite swapping places, Brian and Tom maintained their grip on the top two spots in the standings, as Brian nudged Tom down to 2nd place. Mark remains in 3rd place, while Tim jumped up from 7th to 4th, as Marty fell to 5th.
After three rounds, Brian, Mark, Tom and Marty remain the only undefeated players. Mark and Marty are both still in the running for the “No Others” title. Vegas odds have Marty as the 2:7 favorite. Can Mark beat the odds?
Brian and Tom held onto the top spots here as well, while Dan and Tim moved up into a tie for 3rd, from the prior spots of 6th and 13th. Watch out for Tim, he’s gaining momentum! Mark moved up into 5th place, while Bob, Jim and Marty all fell out of the top-5.
