OK, what is up with this weather?! From toasty, to freezing, then back to oppressively hot and humid, over the span of 3 weeks! Hopefully, Summer is here to stay now. I’m not sure if it was the weather, or just the fact that we now have 4 full weeks of scores in, but all but 3 handicaps changed this week. 4 players improved while 9 saw their handicaps increase.
The top point scorer tonight was Andy, while pulling double-duty, holding Susan to just 1 ½ points in their scheduled match, and Tim to 2 ½ points in a card match. (If players that play well in rainy conditions are called “mudders”, are players that play well in heat and humidity called “muggers”) ? 😊
Next up was Tommy, as he continues his undefeated run, downing Pete 7 ½ - 2 ½, on his way to re-taking the top spot in the league standings. Well done Tom!
Three matches ended at 5 ½ - 3 ½. First up, in the no-strokes matchup of Dave and Bette, it was Dave, finishing with a birdie at the final hole to break the tie for the win! Next, Sue narrowly missed halving her match with Jim, with a tough finish on the final hole. Great effort Sue! And, in the other card-match of the night, Dan prevailed over Brian, in another match that could’ve resulted in a tie had the final hole score gone the other way.
Finally, we had 2 matches end in a tie. It looks like Mark and Dan had a real duel going, as both players broke 40, and had 5 split holes, on their way to the tie. Great round gents! In the other tied match, it was Bob who had the halve guaranteed by the 7th hole, putting the pressure on Marty, who responded well, parring the final 2 holes to get level. Nice recovery Marty!
Brian and Tom continued their dance at the top of the standings, once again swapping positions, with Tom moving up to the #1 spot this week. Meanwhile, Mark remained in 3rd place, while Andy joined the top 5, moving up from 6th to 4th, followed by Marty holding on to the #5 spot.
Mark, Tom and Marty now remain the only undefeated players. Mark and Marty are both still in the running for the “No Others” title. Vegas odds may have to change a bit following this week’s performance, as Marty flirted with others on 3 separate holes. Is there a chink in the armor? Time will tell!
Dan and Mark broke the stranglehold that Brian and Tom have held here, moving up from 3rd and 5th, into 1st and 2nd, respectively. Brian fell to 3rd, while Tom dropped into 5th. Andy moved up to 4th from 8th, while Tim dropped out of the top 5 into 6th place.
