We dodged the blob that was moving in from the west, leaving us with a comfortable, slightly sticky, round. I’d rate the weather an A-. Not much movement in the handicaps, as 3 players went up 1 stroke, and 1 went down.
In the headline match-ups, let’s start with the low-handicap event. Marty came out strong, getting to a guaranteed tie after 6 holes. Needing just a ˝ point more for the win, it just wasn’t in the cards, as Mark shifted gears, to take the final holes, ending with a birdie at the last, to keep the match knotted. Nicely done guys!
The Mohsinger family show-down did not disappoint either. The match was tied 3 times, with both Bette and Tom taking the lead at some point. They were tied-up coming to the final hole, where, given the chance for the win with about a 6-footer, Tommy erred on the side of family harmony, missing the putt, ending the match in a tie (including tying the bonus point). Wise man Tom 😊
In the 2nd of our three family match-ups, Tim jumped out to a 5-1 lead over Dad-in-law Dave. Then, perhaps inspired by Mark’s performance in the same group, Dave took the final 3 holes, to hold on for the 5-4 loss. Nice recovery Dave!
The final family match, featuring cousins Dan and Jim, was also knotted 3 times, with Jim holding the lead after 6 holes. There must’ve been something in the air though for those first 2 groups, as Dan also turned his game up a notch, taking the final 3 holes for the 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ win! Nice finish for the bragging rights Dan! Along for the ride in this match, and matching cards to Dan, Sue had a respectable round, holding her own thru the first 3 holes, tying things up at 1 ˝ - 1 ˝. With no double-digit holes, she came away with 2 ˝ points for her efforts. Nice round Sue!
In a match featuring two players with a combined 70+ years of Hacker league experience, Bob had the misfortune of catching Andy on his A-game. Tied after the 1st hole, Andy led the rest of the round, thanks, in part, to a couple of Mohsingers along the way. And no, neither Tom nor Bette assisted Andy in his round 😊
Pete grabbed the 2nd highest points on the night, with a wire-to-wire, 6-3 win over Dan Richardson. Except for the final hole, Pete had at least ˝ point on every hole. Nice round Pete!
Last, but not least, Susan, still looking for that elusive first win, fell to Brian 5 ˝ - 3 ˝. It was a valiant effort, all square thru 4, but Brian took the lead in the 5th hole, and held it to the end. Who will be Susan’s first victim?
Tom and Brian are now tied at the top, as Brian moved up from 2nd place to join Tom at the top. The 3rd place tie of Mark, Andy and Marty has broken up, leaving Andy in solo 3rd, Mark in solo 4th and Marty falling to 6th place, as Dan moved up into 5th place from 6th
Despite falling out of the “No Others” contest (leaving Mark as the only player without the blemish), Marty remains the only undefeated player. Now, the clock is ticking on Mark. Can he stave off the dreaded triple for the rest of the season?
Final note: It’s official! Check this link, and the “Our Mohsinger” link
At the halfway point of the “regular” season, Dan continues to hold the lead. Brian falls from 2nd place to 5th, as Andy and Mark move into 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, followed by Dave, moving up from 6th into 4th place. Jim fell from the top 5 into 7th place.
