Fortunately, the earlier long-term forecast calling for T-storms and rain did not pan out. It was a nice, rain-free, albeit moderately humid, night for golf.
We saw 4 players handicaps rise, with only 1 going lower, so, I’m thinking that the combination of the back 9 and the high humidity may have taken its toll on some folks.
Gloria, relieved I am sure at the change in the weather, put on a clinic, taking top points on the night as she pulled double-duty with her scheduled match against Dave, and card-match against Bette. Both matches went 7-2 in her favor, with the net bonus point thrown in for good measure. Nice round Gloria!
Meanwhile, Andy didn’t do himself any favors inviting his friend Joe to sub for Marty, as Joe drubbed Andy 6 ˝ - 2 ˝ on what has been, until now, a low-scoring 9 for him. Thanks for coming Joe, thanks a lot… 😊
We saw three matches ending 6-3. Starting with Tim, playing one of his best rounds against Mark. With the match all tied after the first 5 holes, Tim finished strong, allowing only ˝ point over the final 4 holes. Excellent round Tim!
Next up was Dick, subbing for Susan against Dan. Dick definitely came ready to play, shooting his handicap and jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Dan made a hearty effort at playing catch-up, throwing 2 birdies at Dick, however, it just wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Nice round both of you!
Rounding out these matches, we have Jeanne taking the win over Pete. While tied after the 2nd hole, Jeanne turned up the heat, taking the next 4-in-a-row to clinch the win. Pete fought on through the end, scoring 2 points over the remaining 3 holes, to avoid a runaway loss. Nice match folks!
In a match featuring playing partners from last week’s scramble, Sue and Bob were opponents this week, and Sue took the gloves off, featuring a round with no double-digit holes, posting a wire-to-wire 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ win, over Bob. Nice round Sue!
Last, but not least, Tom and Brian, playing in a head’s-up, no strokes match, battled to a draw, with Tommy’s 1 stroke lower gross score, giving him the net bonus point. Nice match guys!
Tom retained the #1 spot in the standings, just ahead of Brian, who also kept his #2 spot. Despite not being in the field this week, Marty somehow managed to move up in the standings from 4th to 3rd, knocking Andy down into 4th, followed by Mark and Dan, who continue to maintain their 5th place tie.
Mark remains “un-othered” for the season, with no signs of cracking as far as I can tell, having played in the same group with him in recent weeks. Keep it up Mark, you can do it!
Dan continues to hold on firmly to the top spot, while the rest of us jockey for position as the regular season comes into the home stretch. Just 2 weeks remain until the playoffs. Mark and Andy swapped places, with Mark moving up into 2nd from 3rd. Tim’s stellar play moved him up into 4th place from 8th, nudging Brian down one spot into 5th, as Dave falls out of the top-5 into 7th.
