Yet another great weather night for golf! I think this is the first time in a long time that we haven’t had a rain-out. This week looks good too, so, that just leaves the banquet night. Fingers crossed.
Bette was the top point-scorer on the night, capturing 8 points in her match with Bob, whose only point of the night came with a par at the par 3 17th, thereby avoiding the looming goose-egg. Good save Bob!
Next up, was Mike F., bettering his handicap by 3, and taking points at every hole for the decisive win over Mark, who seems to be catching everyone on a good night this season! (Well, everyone except yours truly, and Brian that is). Nice round Mike!
Speaking of Brian, he was next up, with a 6 ˝ - 2 ˝ win over Marty. Brian had a dog in the fight on every hole, except the last, where a triple gave Marty his only full point of the night. Well done Brian!
Filling in for Jim this week, in our only heads-up match of the night, Joe downed Dave 6-3. This, despite dealing with Friday afternoon northway traffic, and arriving literally just in time to tee off in the last group. Maybe a little frustration came out in that round, as he fired the low gross for the group as well. Nice round Joe!
Andy was next up, squeaking out a 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ win over Sue, who had her best points-night so far this season, including taking the bonus point. Nice round Sue!
Dan and Tom had a close match, with 4 tied holes, and the match all square going into the final hole, it was Dan taking the full point at the last for the win. Great match guys!
The remaining 2 matches of Matt vs Gloria and Tim vs Mike Murphy, ended in ties. Each match had only 1 tied hole, making for quite the slug-fests! Matt and Gloria each shot 3-over their handicaps to split the bonus point, while Mike shot his handicap to take the full point against Tim, who shot just 2-over his HCP.
Dave held on to his narrow lead over Tommy in the league standings, while the ever-dangerous Gloria has crept up behind them into 3rd place. Bette and Andy moved up one spot each, into 4th and 5th, respectively. I hope to have the “who can do it” numbers out there later this week, so we can see who can play the spoiler, if anyone can.
After week three of the play-offs, Mike Fusco has moved up from 4th place to taken over the lead, with Bette trailing by just 50 points. It’s going to come down to the wire! Meanwhile, Dave, Tim and Tom dropped into 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively , but still well within striking distance.
Again, keep in mind that at the end of the play-offs (this Friday), everyone will drop their lowest point week. Until then, everyone’s lowest is a zero, so, there could be a significant shift after that last week.
