Another great night of weather for golf. Let hope this trend continues.
I have an update to the moneyball drawing from Friday night. I blame myself for not checking Ron’s scorecard to ensure that the net scores were calculated, and also for not explaining the process to him to begin with. Those of you in attendance know that we drew one ball, #4, and once again it appeared that Mike Murphy was going to be the winner. However, while reviewing the cards the next day, I realized that Ron was looking at his gross scores only. In this case he had a score of 3 on the hole drawn, which also gave him a net 2, the same as Mike. We should’ve continued drawing with just their cards, which is what I did here at home. I proceeded to draw #7, which again resulted in a tie, as both players had a net 3. The third ball ended up deciding the winner, as Ron’s net 2 on the 3rd hole gave him the win over Mike’s net 4. I apologize for the confusion, and will try and ensure it doesn’t happen again. Ron, we’ll get the winnings to you somehow. Mike, since you weren’t there for the drawing, at least we don’t have to ask you for the money back 😊
It was the night of the Fuscos, as Mike was the top scorer tonight, taking 8 holes as veteran Hacker Bob struggled throughout the round. Shake it off Bob, you and I need a big win next week to get out of the team cellar😊
Not to be outdone, in the same foursome, uncle Dan racked up 7 points in his match again Gloria. I may have to looking into separating those two in the future.
Three matches ended at 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ , beginning with Dave winning the veteran matchup against Tom in wire-to-wire fashion. Jim and Dan Richardson had more of a back-and-forth match, with Dan leading most of the 1st half of the round, only to have Jim get things to all square, and then pull away for the 2-up win. Nice match gentlemen! The last match with this score featured subs Joe and Ron, filling in for Pete and Sue. Ron got out to a quick start at the first, but Joe took the 2nd to get back to all square. After that, it was all Ron, leading the rest of the way for the 2-up win.
In the heads-up match of Marty and Andy, it was a start-to-finish win for Marty, who had a tie guaranteed by the 6th hole. Needing to win the remaining 3 holes to end with a tie, Andy managed only 2 ˝ points, giving Marty the 5-4 win. Nice round sir!
The remaining win went to Tim, with a 5-4 victory over Bette. The best Bette could manage throughout the close round was to get it to all square. One sign of the closeness of the match is that it was the only match of the night in which the losing player won the bonus point for the lower net. Valiant effort Bette!
In the remaining match of Mark and Mike Murphy, Mark led early on, but, Mike fought back to square things up by the 7th, and then to lead after 8. A solid par by Mark at the final hole, concluded the match with a draw. Another good match!
Mark maintained his “other”-free season, while Tom, Gloria and Bette, finally suffered their first losses of the season.
Bette remains our leader, holding the #1 spot for the second week-in-a-row, followed by Jim, breaking out of a third-place tie with Tom, to take solo second place. With his big win, Mike Fusco moved up from 7th to 3rd. Tom dropped to 4th place, ahead of Dave and Marty in a tie for 5th.
Despite struggling a bit this week, Gloria maintained her lead, albeit by a mere 460 points ahead of Dave, who moved up from 4th into 2nd, nudging Jim down slightly into 3rd. Andy moved up from 7th to 4th, while Mike Fusco remained in 5th place, as Bette fell from 3rd to 6th.
40 – Marty, Joe
41 – Mark, Andy
42 – Dan F.
33 – Dan F., Marty, Dave, Joe, Ron
NEW for 2022
Virtual Team Competition
This competition is turning out to be a little more volatile, as the team of Marty / Bette combined for the highest weekly point total thus far this season, to vault up the board from 4th into the top spot. Jim / Pete (sub Joe), fell back to 2nd place, just ˝ point back. Dan / Sue (sub Ron) moved up from 5th to 3rd, just one point ahead of the former leaders Brian (sub Dan R.)/ Gloria, who are now tied for 4th with Mark / Dave. The teams of Tim / Tom and Andy / Bob, will battle it out for the bottom in their upcoming week 6 matchup.
We had two birdies tonight.
1 – Mark
8 - Tom
Once again, Andy found the green just inside limit.
