Well, finally got a week in the books without a hitch. As far as I know anyway. Thanks Tommy, for providing the tape measure for the CTP. As it happens, no one got close enough. Dan Fusco definitely qualified for being closest to the edge of the green. I had it at about 1 ˝ inches 😊
Unfortunately for Pete, he ran into the Blond Buzzsaw, aka Gloria, and was only able to garner 1 point, coming at the first hole. The rest was all Gloria, as she won the remaining 8 holes. Great round Glo!
Despite getting off to slow starts, just after the halfway point, Jim and Andy managed to go up in their respective matches with Sue and Matt. Both finished with the 6-3 victory. The round was not without some drama, as Andy almost shanked Jim on the last hole, sending his 3rd shot wildly at his head. But hey, still made par 😊
Next up, Brian and Bob were 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ winners against Tim and Bette. Whereas Brian also got off to a slow start against Tim, not taking the lead until the 6th hole, Bob came firing right out-of-the-gate, taking a 3-up lead into the 7th hole. Bette made a valiant attempt to level the match, taking the next 2 holes, but Bob held her off at the last hole for the 2-up win. Nice match kids!
In two matches with three “Dans” playing, one of them was bound to win. In this case two of them won. In a real nail-biter, Dan Palmerino and Mark split the first four holes before first blood was taken by Dan at the 5th hole. The next two holes were split as well, with Mark getting the match back to all square with a win at the 17th. Dan fired back to finish up with a win at the final hole for the 5-4 victory. Nice close match guys!
In the Dan v. Dan match, it was another close one, with Dan Fusco taking the early lead over Dan Richardson, (making his first sub appearance). After a quick 2-up lead through two holes, Dan R fought back to all-square at the 5th, and then to 1-up at the 7th. Dan F closed out the match, winning the final 2 holes for the 5-4 victory. Nice strong finish Dan. Good match gents.
And, once again, last, but not least, in a battle of Hacker veterans, Dave quickly got out to an early 2-up lead through two holes. A little back-and-forth saw that lead go down, then up, then down again. Splitting the next 3 holes, it appeared as though Dave was going to hang on for the win, but Tommy was having none of that, as he won the final hole to level the match, splitting everything, including the bonus point, right down the middle. Way to battle it out guys!
Still playing tough, 7 players’ handicaps went up again this week. Three more weeks of play on the new course should have everyone sitting where they should be.
Mark continued his “no other” streak (Can we really call it a streak yet? It’s only been 2 rounds 😊). Marty’s absence continues to be felt, and he will be missing at least one more week. We are all hoping for a speedy recovery Marty!
Dan Fusco retained the #1 spot atop the Hacker Cup standings, while Gloria jumped up from 3rd to 2nd with Dan P dropping to 3rd
43 – Dan F.
44 – Andy
46 – Mark, Jim
34 – Dan F.
35 – Gloria
36 – Bob, Dan R.
NEW for 2023
Knockout Champion
As he predicted, Dan Fusco held onto the gloves, as he and Andy went into extra holes for the top points on the night.
Once again there was just 1 birdie out there, as Scoop made one on the difficult par 5 13th hole. Well played Dave!
