I’d first like to thank all of our subs last night for filling in.  Dan, nice to know we can always count on you!  Mark and Paul, thank you both for the last-minute save!  Hope you enjoyed yourselves and will have an opportunity to join us again!

Conditions were a little mixed.  The ground has firmed up quite a bit, helping some of those drives to run out a bit, but, the wind was a little unfriendly.  All-in-all though, the weather was a positive.  Summer seems to finally be setting in!

Three matches garnered their winners 6 points.  Starting with match #1, Mark vs. Andy. Andy came out firing, taking the first 3 holes, but, Mark responded well, winning all of the remaining holes handily, on his way to low gross on the night.  Nice round Mark!

Tim went wire-to-wire against Jim for his win. Losing just 2 holes and tying 2. Jim managed to grab the bonus point by 1 stroke.  Well done both of you!

Bette fell victim to new sub Paul, as he too posted a wire-to-wire win, and grabbed the bonus point to boot!  Tough loss Bette!

This night’s battle of veteran Hackers saw Bob prevailing over Tommy in a real back-and-forth match that was squared up once in each third of the match. It was Bob coming on strong in the final third to take the 2-up, 5 ½ point win!  Great match!

In the straight-up, no-strokes match between Dave and Matt, it was Matt coming out on top, 5 ½ - 3 ½ , in a tight match where just 2 strokes could’ve meant the difference between the win and a draw.  Well fought fellas!

Our other first-time sub, Mark Roschinsky, no stranger to EC as he plays here in the Monday league, pulled out a close one against Dan P.  This was another match that could’ve gone either way, as there were 6 tied holes!  Mark had the one additional hole win in the first half of the match to keep him 1-up till the end and the victory.  Another hard-fought match!

In the family feud category, where do I begin?  In the future, we may need to institute a roving rules committee to follow these two around when they play each other ( this is why I don’t play golf against my wife, our marriage would not survive 😊 ).  Despite what I am sure was feigned contentiousness, this was a great comeback win for Sue, as Pete got out to a 3-up lead through 4 holes. Sue began whittling away at that lead, eventually getting back to all-square going into the last hole.  With no strokes on this one, she won the hole outright by just 1 stroke for the 5-4 win.  The match was so close, they even split the bonus point.

We saw just one match tied, as Brian worked his way to a 2-up lead after 4 holes. Dan R. fought back getting to all square after 2 more holes.  Brian took the lead one last time at the 7th, as Dan squared things up again at the 8th, where it remained for the knotted match, as well as the split bonus point. Nice match gents!

Once again, 7 players’ handicaps went up again this week, while 2 players’ actually went down thanks to their improved play this week. Kudos to Dave and Sue!

So, I think we can finally call it a streak. Mark extended his number of rounds sans “others” to 3  (while simultaneously ending Andy’s win streak of the same number). No word yet on Marty’s return-to-action

Hacker Cup

Dan Fusco had such a commanding lead here, that even sitting out a week was not enough for anyone to overtake him. Gloria, however, did not fare as well, as, in her absence, she dropped from #2 to T4 with Matt, who was in 4th place by himself after last week. Dan P moved up into the #2 spot, followed by Dave, who took top points this week, moving up from 6th to 3rd.  Nice round Scoop!

The Numbers:

Low Gross

40 – Mark Rusnak

44 – Andy

45 – Dave, Mark Roschinsky

Low Net

34 – Dave

35 – Mark Roschinsky

36 – Mark Rusnak, Matt, Brian, Dan R., Paul

NEW for 2023

Knockout Champion

Dan F also held on to the Knockout lead, as no one was able to score high enough to exceed his current average.   Maybe the gloves will come off next week…

Eagles and Birdies

There were 2 birdies on the night, both coming from the first group.

#1 – Andy

#7 - Mark

Closest-to-the-pin

Mark was on target with his irons tonight. Knocking it to 17’ 9 ½” on the tricky 6th hole.  Great shot Mark!
