Final (corrected) Results for May 26, 2023
Well, this year is certainly getting off to a shaky start. With this week’s wrong-side scorecard snafu, which also revealed that the hole difficulties (handicaps) for the course have been wrong all season (thankfully we are early in the season still), it is clear to me that I need to devote my extra retirement time to paying attention to the normal league stuff, rather than thinking up crazy games and formats…
I am still waiting for confirmation of some of the scorecards from Friday, and will hold off on any commentary regarding possibly affected match results until I have confirmation from everyone. In the mean-time, the currently known matches and stats are published, and are there to (hopefully) help people review their scores and report any changes if needed.
Just so everyone understands, here is my concern. Since the pars listed for the holes were for the front nine, they were obviously not matching up with the holes on the back. If, for example, someone told the scorer, “I had bogey there”, and the scorer looked at the par on the scorecard rather than using the actual par for the hole, it is possible that bogey 4 on a par three, might’ve been recorded as a par if the hole was actually a par four. If you typically report your scores to the scorekeeper using numbers, as opposed to saying “par”, “bogey”, you are probably safe. Another concern is that sometimes folks miss a hole when writing down scores (we all do it), and, when thinking back, they may say “Let’s see I had a par on the par 3 (which may actually have been a par 4 hole showing as a par 3 on the card), etc…” I’m just saying that there could be any number of confusing things that could’ve happened, and if everyone could take a few minutes to review their scores on each hole, that would be helpful.
Now, to the other issue. I went back and corrected the first four weeks’ scorecards and applied the point changes to the master spreadsheet/websheet . Most of the matches affected were only changed by ½ point swings. There was, I believe 1 full point swing. The weeks and matches affected are listed here:

In the left frame, “Matches-at-a-glance” section, I have included a second link next to each of the original weekly links. Each link is a “C” for corrected. You can use these to see the differences between the original scorecards and the corrected ones.
I am holding off on any further commentary until I have
confirmation from everyone. Low gross, low net, Hacker Cup and CTP are not
affected by either issue and are shown below.
Updated commentary as of 5/31
OK, I think everything is sorted out now. If not, and anyone spots any errors, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks!
It turned out to be another good night for veteran hacker Bob, as he and Matt both struggled a bit. It looks like Matt struggled a little bit more than Bob did, shooting about 9 strokes over his handicap, while Bob was only 4-over his, leading to the final 6 ½ - 2 ½ tally. In particular, the par 5 13th (aka “The Pesky Pond Hole”) seemed to take its toll on both players. Shake it off fellas 😊
Junior veterans Tom and Dave also had good nights, both winning 6-3 over opponents Dan Richardson and Mark, respectively. Despite falling 2 down to Dan after 3 holes, Tom fought back, squaring the match at the 14th, and then pressing on over the remaining holes to get to 3-up at the end. Well done Tommy!
In a similar fashion to the match of Bob and Matt, Mark and Dave both struggled a bit, with Dave struggling just a little bit less on key holes. Dave had it to 4-up through the 17th, but ran into a triple-bogey at the last hole to give one back to Mark’s par. Dave’s 4-over his handicap to Mark’s 5-over, speaks to their troubles, and gave Dave the bonus point. Good effort gentlemen.
Two matches went to 5 ½ - 3 ½ starting with the rematch between Tim and Ev. This was a close one, with the match all square on 4 different holes. Tim had the first lead in the match, but Ev took it away on the 14th hole. Tim squared it up again on 15, but, once again Ev took back the lead, this time for keeps, as she finished 2-up at the last hole. Great match!
The match of Dan Palmerino and Bette was another back-and-forth round. Dan took the early lead only to have Bette square it up at the 12th and move into the lead, getting to 2-up through the 14th. Dan then proceeded to run the next 4 holes throwing 3 pars at Bette for the 2-up win. Both players scored well, as Dan bested his handicap by 3, while Bette was just 2 over her own. Nice round indeed!
The remaining matches all ended at 5-4. In the 3rd group, Andy and Dan had a real corker going, as they tied 6 of the 9 holes, and had the match at all square from the 11th to the 15th. At the start Andy took the first hole, followed by Dan taking the second to get it back to all square where it remained until the 16th. This turned out to be the deciding hole for Andy, as a win there, followed by ties on the last two, gave him the 1-up win. It was a fun round Dan!
The fourth match featured Brian vs Joe Sheridan, in another come from behind win match for Brian, as Joe got out to the early start, getting to 2-up through the 13th. Brian dug deep at this point, going on to win 4 of the last 5 holes for his 1-up match win. This was another match with both players shooting well, just 1 or 2 strokes over their handicaps. Nicely done!
Finally, in another rematch of sorts, in Gloria’s absence, Jim was matching cards again Dan Palmerino, who, as we saw above, had a pretty good round. Well, that really brought out the competitor in the normally carefree, happy-go-lucky, come-as-what-may Jim 😊, as he came out firing, clinching the match at the 15th hole. He slowed down a bit at this point, allowing Dan to win the remaining holes, but still, both players shot 3 better than their handicaps, splitting the bonus point, as Jim won 5-4. Excellent round guys!
Dan Fusco continues his tight-fisted lead here, although Dan Palmerino has narrowed the gap to just 400 points. Dave held onto his 3rd place spot, while Jim moved up from 6th to 4th, followed by Matt, falling slightly from T4 to 5th place.

NEW for 2023
Knockout Champion
Jim lasted the longest this week, but, garnered a mere 4 points, not nearly enough to catch up to Dan’s average, leaving him in the lead here, followed by Dave and then Andy. Dan’s average has been dropping a bit, so, look for some movement here if that trend continues.
