It’s bad enough when we have to deal with heat, humidity, rain and thunderstorms.  Now, we have to worry about the AQI too!  What’s next? Locusts?

Thanks to Glenn and Joe for filling in this week!  Glenn has also indicated that he is available for most, if not all, of the remaining weeks to fill in for Marty.  We’ll get that handicap of yours down in no time Glenn, starting with this week 😊  Speaking of handicaps, for the first time this season, no one’s handicap went up following a round. In fact, 6 players improved their handicaps, while the rest remained the same. Hopefully, we have all settled into the new course now, and we can all work on bringing those handicaps down now.

Now for the matches.

Despite getting off to a slow start against Mark, Glenn found his rhythm by mid-match and finished strong, clinching the match by the 7th hole, and topping it off with 2 more points for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win.  Despite the loss, Mark posted his 3rd, sub-handicap round this season. Nice round Mark!

The match between Jim and Pete started off with a back-and-forth look to it at first, but, after the 2nd hole, Jim ran up the score, getting to 5-up thru 7.  Pete fought back at the end, halving the 8th hole and winning the 9th, to keep the score at 6 ½ - 2 ½ .  Way to hang in there Pete!  You were up against a tough opponent, as Jim had a good round, firing a 2-under net!

In the matchup of Gloria and Tim, after losing the first hole, Tim went on a 5-0 run to assure the win in that match by the 6th hole. Gloria managed to win 2 more points over the final 3 holes to finish with a 6-3 loss.

Four matches ended with scores of 5-4.

Bette and Andy battled to the very end, squaring up their match 4 times, coming to the final hole tied at 4-4. Bette drove the dagger in deep with a par at the final hole to take the win.  Nice round, and a great finish Bette!

Matt and Joe were 2 of 7 players shooting sub-par net scores this week.  This made for another close match, squared-up on every even hole until the 8th, where a bogey by Joe gave Matt the winning point. Great match gents!

Tom jumped out to a 2-up lead over Dan PalmerinoDan set aside his driver in favor of his 5-iron off the tee, and quickly turned things around taking a 2-up lead himself after 6 holes. Undaunted by this, Tom fought back, taking 2 holes in-a-row to square the match coming to the final hole. The final point was determined by just 1 stroke, with Dan parring the hole to come out on top. Well fought fellas!

In the last of the 5-4 matches, Brian took the early 1-up lead, which would turn out to be his only lead, as Sue squared-up the match on the next hole, took a 1-up lead, and held on to the end for the win, upping her lead to 2-up 3 times along the way. Great round Sue!

Rounding out all of the matches, after splitting the first hole, Dave went from 1-up, to 3-up through the first 5 holes against Dan FuscoDan whittled away at that lead over the remaining 4 holes to end the match just as it started, all square.

Mark continues his no others streak.  Keep it up Mark!

League Standings

Dan Fusco held the lead in the standings. There was a little movement below him, as Brian and Dan Palmerino moved into a tie for 2nd place, advancing from their previous 3rd and 5th places respectively. Meanwhile Gloria and Andy retained their 4th and 5th place positions. Two more weeks and then we can start losing those low-point weeks!

Hacker Cup

Dan Fusco held the lead here as well! With 3 weeks remaining until the playoffs, the jockeying for positions starts to be more critical. Dan Palmerino edged ahead of Dave for 2nd place, while Matt moved up from 6th place into 4, and Jim retained his 5th place position. Meanwhile, watch out for Tim, as he has started a run toward the top, moving up from 11th place to 7th with the low net points he shared with Matt.

NEW for 2023

Knockout Champion

Dan Fusco still leads here. Jim took 10 points for the week, surviving a playoff with Andy. At this point, I’d like to propose a slight tweak to this new process, something that Tim and I had discussed early on.

Mainly, while the year-end Knockout Champ will still be determined by the highest average over the course of the season, the current week’s leader should be the one to carry the gloves in the following week.  Dan has just been hogging them too much 😊

This would mean that for 7/7, Jim would have the privilege of “wearing” the gloves (hopefully, Dan hasn’t lost them).

Eagles and Birdies

Once again, no one recorded a hole under par this week.  Maybe the AQI was a factor, or the heat/humidity, or all of the above.

Dan did NOT win CTP this week, nor did anyone else.
