Well, at least there was no Canadian smoke this week. Instead, it was more rain… While it was tolerable in the beginning, and didn’t last for long, that soaking cloudburst at the end was just adding insult to injury. I for one, am glad I brought an extra set of dry clothes to change into. Might need to make that a staple if this keeps up.
Thanks again to Glenn for filling in for Marty this week. Unfortunately, we couldn’t lower your handicap as promised, as your scoring is still a bit in-flux. Hopefully, you’ll settle into a rhythm soon. We had just 2 handicaps increase this week, with 9 players remaining where they were and 4 players improving.
Now for the matches.
Dan Fusco was the top point-earner on the night, as Pete struggled a bit, posting his 2nd highest round of the season. Tying just 3 holes, Dan ran away with the match for 7 ½ points plus the bonus. Pete, just chalk it up to a case of “sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you”.
Next up, despite posting her 2nd lowest score of the season, Sue ran into a bear of her own, as Andy posted his best round of the season, allowing just 4 half-points for the 7-2 win. It was still a fun and entertaining round, as Sue demonstrated mad cart-driving skills throughout the round 😊
Mark also posted his best round of the season, on his way to a 6 ½ - 2 ½ win over Brian, including a downhill putt for birdie on the slopy par 3 17th hole. Nice round Mark!
The night of season bests continued, as Bob also had his best round of the season, going up against Glenn (who, based on scores so far this season, doesn’t seem to fare very well on the back 9). Bob had a tie sewn up by the 5th hole and capped off the match by taking 2 of the final 3 holes for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win. Nice round Bob! Brian, just a word of warning, you’re playing Glenn next on the front 9. Good luck!
Tim pulled a difficult match-up tonight, as “Team Mohsinger” double-teamed him, holding him to a combined 5 ½ points. Filling in for Gloria against Bette, Tim started out well, taking 1 ½ points in the first 2 holes, but Bette turned on the afterburners and nearly ran the table (pardon the mixed metaphor), winning 5 of the next 6 holes, and tying the last for the 6-3 win. Meanwhile, Tom was another player posting his best round of the season, improving over his previous best by 3 strokes, and besting his back-9 average by 5 strokes. This made him no match for Tim, despite matching his own average score for the back. Great round Tommy!
In a much closer match, Dave jumped out to a 3-up lead over Dan Palmerino. Dan chipped away at that, bringing the match to all square after 7 holes. Given that the skies opened up around this time, I can only assume that Dave is a bit better of a “mudder” than Dan, as he took the last 2 holes for the 5 ½ - 3 ½ win. Both players shot their handicaps and split the bonus point. Nice match gents!
Finally, in the match between Jim and Matt, both players struggled a bit, scoring slightly higher than their averages on the back 9. Matt led in the match wire-to-wire, by as much as 3-up at one point. To his credit, Jim fought back to finish just 1-down giving Matt the 5-4 victory. Well fought fellas!
Mark continues his no others streak. Keep it up Mark!
With his 7 ½ point win tonight, Dan Fusco easily held onto the top spot in the standings here. Meanwhile, Andy and Bob made big moves up into 2nd and 3rd places, from their previous spots of 5th and 7th. Sitting out the action this week didn’t hurt Gloria much, as she remained in 4th place, followed by Dan Palmerino, falling from his 2nd place tie with Brian, to 5th place. Brian fell a little further into 8th. Just one more week, and then some of us can start throwing out our low points. Look for some movement on week 11.
There was very little movement at the top of the Cup standings, as Dan Fusco, Dan Palmerino and Dave held the 1-3 spots, respectively. Meanwhile, Jim and Matt swapped positions as Jim moved up one into 4th place. Just 2 more weeks remain in the regular season and the re-seeding for the play-offs!

NEW for 2023
Knockout Champion
Dan Fusco still leads the season here. Tom took top points of 10 for this week, surviving a play-off with Mark as his net 3 on the first hole bettered Mark’s net 4. Nice Round Tommy! Jim, you will be transferring the gloves to Tom on Friday. |
Despite the rain, we had 2 birdies recorded on the night.
#14 – Dan (validating his CTP win 😊 )
#17 – Mark
Dan DID win CTP this week with the closest shot this year, 3’ even!
Great shot on that tough hole Dan!
